  • Lagos State Police Commissioner Adegoke Fayoade provides water and biscuits to Nigeria Labour Congress protesters for their well-being
  • Fayoade emphasizes the importance of supporting demonstrators during the protest, ensuring their strength and safety in scorching weather conditions

During the recent nationwide protest organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, the Police Commissioner of Lagos State, revealed the rationale behind providing water and biscuits to protesters. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Fayoade highlighted the importance of ensuring the well-being of participants, particularly considering the long trek and the scorching weather conditions.

“The journey was lengthy, and with the hot weather, we didn’t want anyone to collapse on the way. Providing water and biscuits was the least we could do to bolster their strength for a successful protest,” Fayoade emphasized.

Notably, many protesters eagerly accepted the refreshments distributed by police personnel from patrol vehicles along the route.

Fayoade commended the peaceful conduct of the protest, emphasizing that no arrests were made for any infractions during the demonstration. He reiterated the commitment of the police force to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Lagos, urging residents to collaborate by promptly reporting criminal activities.

The nationwide protest, organized by the NLC to protest the high cost of living, spanned Tuesday and Wednesday. The NLC attributed the economic challenges to increased prices of goods and services following the removal of fuel subsidies and the depreciation of the national currency.
