  • Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, warned Levant Construction Company of terminating the Benin/Sapele and Ologbo road project
  • Umahi expressed dissatisfaction with the project’s progress and emphasized the need for contractors to adhere to quality standards

Minister of Works Dave Umahi warned Levant Construction Company, the contractors handling the multi-billion naira Benin/Sapele and Ologbo road reconstruction project. Umahi threatened to terminate the project if the contractors failed to adhere to the specified scope and quality of work.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the ongoing work during an inspection tour in Edo State, Umahi ordered the ministry’s supervising engineers to issue a warning letter to the contractors on Monday. He cautioned that he would terminate the contract if the contractors did not commence permanent work by the specified deadline.

Umahi decried the tendency of contractors in the country to prioritize political interests over-delivering quality infrastructure to Nigerians. He emphasized that the government would not tolerate such behaviour under his watch, stressing the importance of accountability and adherence to contractual terms.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has initiated a project to improve rural access and agricultural marketing. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa launched the project, aimed at constructing roads in rural areas across the state’s three senatorial districts, to facilitate the transportation of farm produce to urban centers.

The project, costing N1.2 billion, began with the construction of a 15.5km road in the Oda community, Akure South Local Government Area. Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated the government’s commitment to rural development and improving rural communities’ livelihoods.

Femi Adetanmi, the State Project Coordinator of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), disclosed that the project was scheduled to be completed within 18 months, underscoring the government’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure in rural areas for the benefit of its citizens.
