  • President Tinubu vows to address Nigeria’s education sector issues, highlighting the urgent need to tackle the problem of out-of-school children
  • He announces the commencement of a student loan scheme to provide equal opportunities for all students to access higher education

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed his dedication to tackling Nigeria’s educational sector’s issues, particularly the alarming problem of out-of-school children.

With 12.4 million children out of school in Nigeria, President Tinubu stressed the imperative of developing and sustaining an education system that propels the nation forward. He conveyed this commitment during the 6th and 7th combined convocation ceremony of the Federal University, Wukari in Taraba State, represented by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman.

President Tinubu underscored the implementation of strategic approaches at all levels to confront the challenges plaguing the nation’s educational sector. He assured that comprehensive measures have been instituted to uphold constitutional provisions regarding access to education for Nigerian children. Notably, initiatives such as the reintroduction of the school feeding program aim to boost school attendance.

Furthermore, Tinubu disclosed the commencement of the student loan scheme, emphasizing its role in providing equal opportunities for all students to pursue higher education, irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds. He emphasized, “The student loan scheme has commenced and it is an opportunity for all students to have a level playing ground in terms of access to higher education.”
