The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered an intensive round-the-clock security of all public spaces and critical infrastructure during and after the 2024 Easter celebrations nationwide.

The IGP equally directed all state Commissioners of Police (CPs) and their supervising Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) to ensure deployment of police personnel and operational assets to areas of likely security threats within their respective areas of responsibility (AoRs).

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated this at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, in a statement made available to journalists, Thursday.

“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reassures Nigerians of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and visitors during the upcoming Easter celebrations. In line with this commitment, the IGP has ordered round-the-clock security and protection of public spaces across the country.

“Intensive and proactive visibility patrols will be conducted at all worship centres, train stations, highways, motor parks, airports, waterways, recreation centres, banks, and other financial institutions, as well as other critical infrastructures and public spaces.

“The Nigeria Police Force emphasizes the importance of professional conduct among its officers deployed for these duties. While ensuring courteousness to law-abiding citizens, officers will maintain firmness and ruthlessness towards criminal elements seeking to exploit the festive period for their unlawful activities,” the statement said in part.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments and Operation Commanders to beef-up security and ensure the deployment of Police Personnel to all locations and to conduct raid operations in all black spots and criminal hideouts.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to journalists by the spokesman for the police command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, Thursday.

“He passionately directed the officer in charge of Motor Traffic Division to position his personnel in strategic traffic prone areas in the state to ensure a free flow vehicular and pedestrians (human) traffic. He finally directed the Police Marine Officer to take charge of the water ways and ensure adequate security of citizens that travel through the water space.

“The CP enjoins citizens to be security conscious, increase vigilantes, and report any incident in their localities to the nearest Police stations or other security agencies”, it stated.

SP Nwabuzor however urged the public to contact the command distress room on 08077773721, 08067551618, 08037646272, and 08123827225.
