  • The federal government pledges to restore electricity supply in eight Sokoto State LGAs following Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s plea
  • A team from the Ministry of Power will assess the blackout causes and facilitate electricity restoration in the affected communities

The federal government has committed to reinstating electricity supply in eight local government areas (LGAs) in Sokoto State that have grappled with a decade-long blackout.

The assurance followed a plea by Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu during the recent official visit of Minister of Power Adelabu Adebayo.

A team from the Ministry of Power was dispatched to assess the affected areas and facilitate the restoration of the electricity supply.

During the weekend assessment in Sokoto, Mustafa Baba Umarah, Director of Distribution at the Federal Ministry of Power, stated that the government’s team would thoroughly investigate the causes of the blackout in the affected communities and take necessary action accordingly.

Umarah reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring universal access to electricity across Nigeria.

Sanusi Dan Fulani, Sokoto State’s Commissioner for Energy, highlighted the significance of restoring electricity in these areas, aligning it with the administration’s drive to boost economic activities, particularly in rural regions. He emphasized the pivotal role of electricity in societal development, especially in the state’s eastern zone, renowned as the food basket.

To facilitate the restoration project’s success, Dan Fulani called for cooperation and support from the benefiting communities.

The eight LGAs slated for reconnection to the national grid include Isa, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, Wurno, Rabah, Gada, Illela, and Gwadabawa.
