  • INEC initiates Continuous Voter Registration in Edo and Ondo states ahead of respective gubernatorial elections, facilitating voter participation
  • CVR exercise runs from May 27 to June 5, 2024, enabling registration at ward levels and state headquarters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo and Ondo states ahead of their respective governorship elections scheduled for September 21 and November 16.

This decision aims to enable eligible voters to participate in the forthcoming elections, as stated by the electoral body’s chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during the second regular quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja.

Yakubu disclosed that the CVR in both states will run concurrently from Monday, May 27, 2024, to Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 9 am to 3 pm daily, including weekends. Due to the limited time before the gubernatorial elections, registration will be conducted at ward levels and state headquarters instead of local government offices and designated centres as previously done.

Furthermore, Yakubu announced that uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) would be available for collection during the CVR period. In the coming days, a comprehensive list of unclaimed PVCs will be published in INEC offices across both states and uploaded to the commission’s website.

In response, Yusuf Dantalle, representing political parties, stressed the imperative of safeguarding democracy against anti-democratic forces.
