On Sunday evening, young persons marched to the streets to demand a return of the dethroned monarch.

Holding aloft banners and placards with sundry inscriptions, the protesters say they want Bayero reinstated.

Some of them lit bonfire on the major road as they marched chanting anti-government songs.

The protesters trooped out after observing a special prayer session.

Bayero was deposed on Thursday after Abba Yusuf, the Kano governor, signed a new law that repealed the Emirate Council Law 2019.

The 2019 legislation balkanised the Kano emirate into the five jurisdictions and provided grounds for the dethronement of Sanusi in 2020.

Muhammadu Sanusi II was reinstated as the 16th Emir of Kano on Friday at a colourful event in government house.
