  • A massive flood damaged INEC’s headquarters in Benin City, affecting items, including machines for the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise
  • The CVR exercise will now occur at the Ikpoba Okha LGA office, with additional machines from neighbouring states ensuring it proceeds as scheduled

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a massive flood caused by heavy rain has damaged part of its state headquarters building in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC made this known in a statement issued in Abuja.

Olumekun explained that the flood affected several moveable and immoveable items, including machines configured for the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise scheduled to begin on Monday.

Due to the flood, the CVR will no longer occur at the commission’s headquarters in Benin as initially planned. Instead, the exercise will be conducted at the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area office at 16 Customs Road, off Benin/Auchi Road, Benin City.
