  • Super Eagles prepare for crucial match against Benin Republic in 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualification series in Abidjan
  • Coach Finidi George emphasizes the team’s determination, focusing on victory to remain competitive for World Cup finals qualification

The Super Eagles are gearing up to take on the Cheetahs of Benin Republic today in a crucial Day 4 encounter of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualification series in Abidjan.

Currently positioned in fifth place in Group C after three rounds of matches, the Super Eagles understand the importance of securing a victory against the Cheetahs to remain competitive for a spot in the World Cup finals, which will be hosted jointly by Canada, USA, and Mexico in two years.

Upon arriving in Abidjan yesterday, Super Eagles coach Finidi George emphasized the team’s determination and focus. He stated, “We are fully aware of the task ahead. The players are eager to qualify for the World Cup and are committed to giving their best in every game.”

Reflecting on their previous match against South Africa, George acknowledged missed opportunities but emphasized the need to focus on the upcoming challenge. “We had chances in the South Africa game that we should have capitalized on, but that is now in the past. Our attention is on the match against Benin Republic, and we are prepared to tackle it head-on,” he remarked.
