  • The group urges citizens to support the president’s initiative.

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (CCSON) has commended President Bola Tinubu’s courage over new appointments at the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs amidst nationwide protest against hardship.

The group in a press statement jointly signed by the Deputy National Chairman and Spokesperson of the coalition, Comrade Auwal Mohammed and Joy Elizabeth, on Wednesday was reacting to the seven appointments made by president Tinubu under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Tuesday night.

The group described the appointment as apt, adding that the move was a clear indication that President Tinubu is committed to alleviate the plights of the citizenry with the determination to take Nigeria to the promised land.

“The Humanitarian Affairs Ministry is a very sensitive agency of government that would offer several livelihood support to all and sundry and in a long run getting the dividends of democracy to every member of the Nigerian society.

“This appointment by President Tinubu is apt, considering the agitations from different nooks and crannies of our society as a result of the government’s policies and reforms that has posed serious economic challenges on the people.

“The humanitarian Affairs Ministry is a very sensitive and critical agency of government, whose impact is capable of affecting the larger population of this country positively if properly managed. This is a good move from the APC administration ably led by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We as a Coalition of over 200 Civil Society Groups, that constitutes over 50 million members across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) are fully in support of this kind of initiative that would give every member of the society a sense of belonging. We therefore call on citizens to support the president in moving Nigeria forward.

“However, we want Tinubu to consider the CEO of QAT Foundation, Hajiya Adenike Tejuosho for the position of Humanitarian Affairs Minister because her track record of intervention in the ongoing nationwide protests is outstanding and therefore should be given the full opportunity in the president Tinubu’s led administration to enable her contribute her quota to national development.

“Adenike is a humanitarian to the core who has used her personal resources to support the less privilege across the 36 states and the FCT.

“Also on the ground of patriot, Tejuosho Adenike risked her life from Abuja to Jos in the view to speak with protesters in other for them to end the protest which they obliged. Her intervention in Kogi State foiled the protest with no single interest, including people living with disabilities, whom she serve as their national Matron. Therefore, appointing her into such position will make Nigerians believe that Mr. President is interested in the welfare of young Nigerians,” the statement said.
