- Nigerians were urged to be aware of the symptoms of Mpox
The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has urged Nigerians to be cautious of the increasing spread of Mpox across Africa, particularly warning those living with HIV/AIDS to take extra precautions.
Speaking on the matter, NACA’s Director-General, Dr. Temitope Ilori, emphasized that individuals with compromised immune systems, such as those living with HIV, face a heightened risk.
With over two million Nigerians living with HIV, Dr. Ilori stressed that a weakened immune system makes it harder for the body to combat infections like Mpox, potentially leading to severe illness.
“It’s crucial for people living with HIV/AIDS to protect themselves and take preventive measures,” she advised, encouraging the public to stay informed and vigilant.
She also urged Nigerians to be aware of the symptoms of Mpox, which include rashes and fever, and to seek medical attention promptly if they experience any unusual signs. “Early intervention is vital for managing Mpox effectively,” she noted.
Dr. Ilori added that NACA is actively monitoring the situation and working closely with public health authorities to ensure that accurate information and necessary resources are available.
“Our collective awareness and timely actions will be key in mitigating the impact of Mpox while continuing to make progress in the fight against HIV and other health challenges,” she concluded.
