Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that the 10th National Assembly, in agreement with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, has decided to revert to Nigeria’s old national anthem as a symbolic gesture towards national rebuilding.

Speaking at the 2024 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos, Akpabio emphasized the importance of unity in addressing the nation’s challenges.

He urged Nigerian lawyers and legal professionals to embrace their roles as agents of positive change.

“We are diligently working to create a robust legal framework that supports the aspirations of all Nigerians,” Akpabio stated. “We believe there is no stain in our country that cannot be erased if we stand together in brotherhood. That is why we returned to the old National Anthem, which reminds us that though tribes and tongues may differ, in brotherhood we stand.”

Akpabio shared his personal journey in politics, noting his success in transforming Akwa Ibom State. He expressed confidence that, with President Tinubu’s leadership and the “Renewed Hope” programme, Nigeria could undergo a similar transformation. “If our dream ignites even a tiny spark of aspiration among those gathered here, it will mark a pivotal moment for Nigeria,” he concluded.
