  • Minister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye disrupts unauthorized events, emphasizing that no program should occur without empowerment for women and children
  • Kennedy-Ohanenye criticizes frivolous spending in the Ministry of Women Affairs, insisting that funds must directly benefit the population

Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has again disrupted an event organized “without her permission.” This incident comes just 22 days after a similar disruption in Abuja on August 8, 2024.

During the previous event, titled “Unveiling the Power of Women and Food Security,” held without the ministry’s approval, the minister accused the organizer of impersonating the ministry. She stated, “There is an impersonation going on here. The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs did not plan this. The lady, I have arrested her. Right now, she is with the DSS.” She also claimed that the event proceeded without her consent despite an official cancellation.

In the latest incident, a viral video shows the minister expressing her opposition to workshops and seminars. She emphasizes that such events must include elements that empower women to make a real impact. According to her, organizing workshops and seminars alone does not directly benefit the people.

She warned, “Let this be the last time Women Affairs will organize anything I am unaware of. You try next time, I will come here and get you people disgraced.” She further criticized the misuse of funds on what she called “frivolous things,” highlighting the country’s struggles with hunger, poverty, and lack of empowerment.

The minister stressed that no program should be without empowerment, saying, “I have changed the narrative.” She condemned the allocation of government funds to activities that do not directly impact the population, arguing that the funds should address poverty and empower people.

Kennedy-Ohanenye vowed to continue her campaign against unproductive spending in the ministry, stating, “If you hear the monies the government gives out to ministries, you will be shocked. Why should it continue like that? Who do you think will save you? It’s you that will save yourself. Let them call me names, troublemaker, ‘mad woman,’ I am ready to take it.”
