President Bola Tinubu has once again been called upon to consider Hajiya Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. This call follows the suspension of Dr. Betta Edu over corruption allegations, leaving the ministry vacant for an extended period.
The Concerned North-East Youth Coalition, a group representing grassroots leaders across six regional states, appealed in a statement on Friday. The group emphasized the urgency of appointing a replacement to address the humanitarian crises in Borno State and the wider North-East.
The Coalition, led by Mallam Aliyu Mohammed and Abba Bumsa, highlighted Tejuosho’s impressive track record as the founder and president of the Queen Adenike Tejuosho Foundation. Her foundation focuses on providing educational and humanitarian support to underprivileged communities across Nigeria.
According to the group, Tejuosho’s humanitarian experience, spanning all regions of Nigeria, makes her uniquely qualified for the role. They praised her compassionate approach, strategic vision, and deep understanding of vulnerable communities’ challenges.
The Coalition cited her recent personal visit to Maiduguri, where she provided relief materials to flood victims, as an example of her dedication to humanitarian efforts. Her hands-on approach, they said, demonstrates her commitment to uplifting marginalized communities.
The Coalition concluded by urging President Tinubu and key stakeholders to support Tejuosho’s nomination. It believes her leadership would bring impactful and transformative results in the country’s humanitarian and poverty alleviation efforts.
