  • He asked the ministry of Education to prioritize budget allocation for facility development and job security

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), President Joe Ajaero,  has called for a unified approach to education policy, citing stability and progress as key outcomes.

At the 2024 International Teachers’ Day event in Abuja, hosted by the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Ajaero identified policy inconsistencies as the root of the persistent HND/BSC disparity.

He emphasized the vital role technical education plays, justifying the continued importance of HND programs.

Ajaero urged the Education Ministry to prioritize infrastructure upgrades and job security through strategic budget allocation.

Additionally, he championed a minimum wage increase beyond the current N40,000 threshold, promising to support enhanced teacher welfare initiatives nationwide.

As Ajaero noted, “We need a wage that will help everyone pay their bills.” To achieve this, he suggested COEASU forge a partnership with the Ministry to secure enhanced funding from the National Assembly.

Ajaero also made a passionate appeal to the Ministry to address the concerns of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and uphold the agreed-upon terms to prevent future strikes.
