2. They’re In Your Social Circle

When I was in college my two roommates and I became close with three sorority girls. Before long, one of my roommates started dating one of these girls. There was no official title, but they were spending a lot of time together. Two weeks after that, that same girl started to cry when my friend tried to hook up with one of her sorority sisters at a party. A week after that, none of us ever had the opportunity to hang out with any of those girls again.

It’s an incredibly simple concept, but it’s one that I didn’t come to understand until late into adulthood: don’t hook up with women in your social circle. Hooking up with girls in your social circle will lead to nothing but awkwardness, ruined friendships, and headaches. Instead, use your girlfriends as wing women.

For example, the mere act of going to a bar with female friends serves as wonderful social proof. That is, if you’re trying to meet women at a bar and those women see you with female friends you instantly become more trustworthy.

I’ve also had female friends set me up with their coworkers or friends of theirs that resided outside of our social circle. As long as I treated these ladies with respect, everything went smoothly even if it didn’t work out between us.

Beyond being set up, female friends can simply bro it up with you and help you be more outgoing in social situations. A simple, “Have you met my friend Seth?” has become my friend Dana’s go to line in bars.
