In the past few days, Nigerian Twitter has been filled with opinions and counter-opinions over a photoshoot done by model and former reality star Beverly Osu.
Her ‘smoking nun’ photo is the first time she’ll ruffle feathers with her artistic expressions.
The Taylor Magazine shoot depicts Beverly in a nun’s habit, smoking and showing off some skin.
While many feel it is art, more people seem to take offence at the ‘desecration of Catholic apparel’. The model herself took time to react to the criticisms, saying that she’s Catholic herself and people “rather worry and pray for the hundreds of thousands of innocent victims that are rapped and abused by priests all over the world particularly over 1000 victims raped by 300 priests in Pennsylvania than worry over a photo that is a mere work of art.” Touche.
It’s not the first time Beverly Osu, who started out as a video vixen and gained continent-wide popularity as a finalist on Big Brother Africa 2013, would court controversy. Here, we run through the different times her actions have shocked her fellow Nigerians.

When she accused former boyfriend 2Shotz of being an abuser
As a 20-year-old in 2012, the model was officially dating rapper 2Shotz. Although it was rumoured at the time that the two were getting married, the relationship ended like a year later. She revealed on Big Brother Africa that the relationship was fraught with domestic abuse and that her ex used to beat her severely. He denied it but she doubled down on the accusation after the show ended.
When she revealed that her mother was deported from the United States
Whilst on the show, Beverly also recounted her difficult childhood, telling her fellow housemates (and the world) her father abandoned the family, leaving her mother to take care of she and her siblings. She also revealed that her mother was arrested for drug trafficking in the United States and was deported.
And then she told of four-month abortion
During a task presentation in the house, she mentioned that she once dated men ‘for money’ as well as terminating a four-month-old pregnancy.

Her smooching sessions with Angelo on BBA
Her in-house relationship with South African Angelo Collins made for steamy watching. The two of them had several moments of R-rated television viewing. On one occasion, Angelo was seen stimulating Beverly’s genitals with his finger and at another, viewers could have sworn they had sex. Beverly insists till date that they did not actually go all the way.
When she released a nude lookbook
Beverly wasted no time in embracing her persona as a sex symbol and always took sultry photographs to boot. She once compiled a book full of her in nude poses.
And when her nude selfies leaked on the internet
Apparently, she sent a few nude photos to an unconfirmed lover of hers, only for the images to find their way to the internet. No, they were not censored. The black bar seen here is our fault.
When she called IK out on BBA and got a reaction from his wife
Her stint in Big Brother was remarkable. Not only was never nominated for eviction, she always had gist about Nigeria’s A-list celebrities. Once, she mentioned that Ik Osakioduwa who was hosting the show at the time- was a regular at Lagos nightclubs. IK’s wife didn’t take kindly to that and she called Beverly a ‘famzer’.
