Three men, Tijani Sanjo, 20; Hammed Kazeem, 28; and Hammed Akinkunmi, 30, were on Friday arraigned before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for assaulting an official of the state government, one Kayode Ayanlade.

The accused were also said to have assaulted law enforcement agents at a market in Owode-Ede in the Ede North Local Government Area of the state.

The police prosecutor, Taiwo Adegoke, stated that the accused committed the offences on July 18 at Owode-Ede.

He added that they assaulted Ayanlade, who is attached to the Osun State Task Force, by beating him and causing him bodily harm.

Adegoke said the offences contravened provisions of sections 516, 355, 34, 356 and 249 of the Criminal Code Cap 32 Vol II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the five counts bordering on conspiracy, assault and breach of the peace preferred against them.

Moving the application for their bail, the counsel for the accused, Mr Tunbosun Oladipo, said his clients would provide reliable sureties, adding that two of the accused were sons of a retired police officer.

The prosecutor, however, opposed the application, saying the accused caused public disorder, which led to the closure of the market.

The magistrate, O. T. Badmus, explained that the matter was being heard in the Osogbo Magisterial District because Owode-Ede was part of the state capital territory.

He committed the accused to bail in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till July 30 for hearing.
