Tragedy struck part of Onitsha on Wednesday as fire incident claimed the lives of a mother and her child.
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported the fire explosion at the Ochanja market in Onitsha, where a fuel tanker fell and exploded at the upper Iweka in Onitsha.
Following the fire disaster, a mother and her child were burnt to death in the ugly incident.
It was gathered that the tanker lost control and fell inside the drainage channel at MCC bus stop near Toronto Hospital, Upper-Iweka, Onitsha.
The tanker’s head separated from the body and continued until it stopped near a flyover.
Also,many buildings and shops were burnt down with goods worth millions of naira destroyed.
The disaster caused serious tension and confusion as passengers, motorists and passersby ran for dear lives.
The police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
He said that the fire affected many shops.
