27 people are under quarantine at the Social Rehabilitation Centre, which has been converted to an isolation centre by the Niger State Government.

The 50-bed capacity centre is located at Sanu village in Bosso local government area of the state.

These people, according to the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Muhammed Maikunsidi, are being quarantined based on the suspicion they might have had contact with confirmed coronavirus cases.

Others among them, he said, displayed symptoms of the virus.

The Commissioner, who received journalists at the premises of the centre, explained majority of the quarantined persons were reported to the Ministry of Health by their families.

This, he said, confirmed success of the massive sensitisation programme by the ministry and their determination to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

“Basically, we have these 27 persons here that might have had contacts with some people that had contacts with confirmed coronavirus cases and coming from an area considered as an epic centre in Lagos.

“Although it has not been confirmed that they are positive of the COVID-19 disease, the issue is that they were coming from the epic center and because of the directive of the World Health Organisation ( WHO) and Nigeria Disease Control Centre( NCDC) to quarantine such people that is what we are doing.

” This is why they are being quarantined in this isolated place at the Social Mobilization Centre, behind the Police Secondary School, Minna in order for them to obey the quarantine rules for a minimum of about 14 days and pending the outcome of the tests we conducted on them that have been taken for analysis at NCDC, in Abuja.”

The Commissioner stated the results of the tests conducted on the 27 persons with suspected coronavirus symptoms were being expected in the state by next week.

He added that the result would determine how long the people will stay at the centre.
