The House of Representatives has passed a resolution to invite President Muhammadu Buhari, to brief the house on the true state of security in Nigeria.

The decision to summon President Buhari was taken at Tuesday’s plenary.

The House considered a motion moved by members from Borno State on the recent massacre of 43 rice farmers in the state by Boko Haram insurgents.

The lawmakers took the decision on Tuesday while adopting a motion of urgent national importance by Satomi Ahmed.

The attack on Saturday on rice farmers in Zabarmari, a community in Jere Local Government Area, saw at least 43 farmers killed and many others missing.

The victims were buried on Sunday.

President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the attack in a Saturday night statement and sent a federal government delegation to Borno.

Recall that the House was earlier divided on the invitation and suddenly went into executive session following rising dissensions among the lawmakers on the subject matter.

Reconvening after an hour from the closed-door meeting, Hon. Ahmadu Jaha from Borno State who earlier insisted on the invitation as the key prayer of the motion collectively agreed on by the lawmakers and presented by Hon. Ahmed Satomi on their behalf was asked to formally move the motion for the president’s appearance

Successfully seconded by another lawmaker, the motion was subjected to a voice vote.

It then received overwhelming support of the House, validating the invitation.

The House was however silent on the time of the president’s appearance.
