Prophecy has a significant place in religion. The desire of believers to know what will happen in the future always draws them to prophecy.

While prophets of other religions are supposedly in contact with God or celestial bodies, people who believe in Africa religion visit Ifa priests for divination. All of these point to the fact that prophesy and religion cannot be separated.

Most prophets take advantage of people’s desperate desire to know what will happen in the future. They claimed to have spoken with a Supreme entity who governs both the heavens and the earth.

They would lie without remorse if it meant keeping their members at bay. They insult people’s sensibilities and make statements about things God has not revealed to them.

2024–2025 saw Nigerian Monarchs intervene in boundary clashes — Here’s what happened

Recall that a Nigerian pastor based in South Africa identified as Pastor Samuel Akinbodunse prophecised that Buhari would not emerge winner of the election.

The pastor while speaking in the build up to the 2019 added that President Muhammadu Buhari would die too.

Pastor Samuel Akinbodunse said;
‘Please Nigerians, warn Buhari that he is going beyond his boundary. That the Lord said his tenure is once and not twice. If not, he will not see the election o. If you know him and how to email the Presidency of Nigeria, please write him a text. If he made a mistake to campaign for elections, before they vote, he will die’,

“And I am saying the truth, I am saying the truth. Tell him the same voice that spoke when people said Jonathan would be the President of Nigeria, the same voice is speaking to him that he must not make that mistake. Let him eat whatever he wants to eat inside sugar that he is now and leave the sugar ‘jejely’. If not, he will die. That is just the message”, he added.

On 26th of February in 2019, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2019 presidential election.

According to an official declaration by Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Buhari polled APC 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled PDP 11,262,978 votes. Yakubu formally declared Buhari “winner and returned elected” at exactly 4:39am Nigerian time.

As at the time of filing this report barely four years after the poll, Muhammadu Buhari is still Nigeria’s president and he has not died as predicted by the pastor.
