Details of Major Events Postponed as Nigeria Mourns Late President Buhari

On Tuesday, the body of late President Muhammadu Buhari was lowered into the ground. This signals the end of a Daura-born soldier who was raised by a single mother and rose to high ranks in the Nigerian army. He served as a head of state for two years and civilian president for eight years.

Following the demise of Muhammadu Buhari, the Tinubu-led administration declared a public holiday in honor of the late former president whose burial has been slated for Tuesday, July 15. President Tinubu also declared a seven-day mourning period, ordering flags to fly at half-mast nationwide.

A check by WITHIN NIGERIA revealed that some major events scheduled for Tuesday, July, 15, 2025 across the country have been postponed.

The major events namely are; GTCo Autism Conference, Federal Executive Council (FEC) Meeting, National Assembly Legislative Activities, APC National Secretariat Closure and BECE Examinations.

Recall that late President Muhammadu Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, at a clinic in London, United Kingdom, after a prolonged illness.

FEDERAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL (FEC MEETING)

President Bola Tinubu on July 14, Monday announced the postponement of the special Federal Executive Council (FEC) slated for July 15. According to the Presidency, a new date would be announced after the burial of the former president. Buhari’s remains are expected to arrive at the Katsina airport from London, before proceeding for final burial in Daura.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ACTIVITIES

Red and green chambers of National Assembly on Monday, July 14 observed a week-long tribute for Muhammadu Buhari. According to the legislative arm, all activities especially Tuesday plenary and the ongoing Constitution review public hearing.

It further disclosed that activities are expected to resume on Tuesday, July 22, with a formal plenary session in honour of Buhari.

BECE / SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS

Following the declaration of a public holiday on Tuesday, July 15, primary and secondary schools across the country who are doing their third term examination could not forge ahead. The Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) have been postponed due to the holiday likewise. However, students who are doing National Examination Council (NECO) were not affected. A check by WITHIN NIGERIA revealed that they went to their centers and did their examinations.

GTCo AUTISM CONFERENCE

The GTCo Autism Conference which was firstly scheduled for Tuesday, July 15 has been moved to Wednesday, July 16, at the Muson Centre.

According to organizers, the one-on-one consultations will still hold as planned from Thursday, July 17 to Saturday, July 19 at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat.

APC NATIONAL SECRETARIAT

Following the demise of Muhammadu Buhari, the national secretariat of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja has been shut from July 14 to July 17.

The party also announced the postponement of a scheduled meeting between APC governors and President Tinubu.
