Call it black Friday, you are not entirely wrong as Enugu-based businessman was allegedly murdered inside the University of Nigeria, Nsukka on Friday, September 12, 2025.

WITHIN NIGERIA source revealed that the businessman Chiebo Nweze, popularly known as Power Autos who hailed from Lejja community in Nsukka local government area of Enugu state was said to have met his untimely death during a bonfire event organized by the Faculty of Arts of the university.

Our source further explained that “the event was held at the Archaeology Department, opposite UBA Hall of Fame, within the UNN campus. Both the victim, Power Autos, and his alleged assailant were not students of the institution. They just came to catch cruise and spend some cash on the event.”

In any case, an eyewitness account revealed that the altercation began when Power Autos’ GLK vehicle accidentally scratched another car. The situation initially escalated but was quickly resolved by university security operatives.

Power Autos: Allegedly murdered in UNN

However, as Power Autos later attempted to leave the venue with his friends, they were ambushed within the UNN premises by the suspects, who blocked their path with three vehicles.

Sensing imminent danger, passengers in Power Autos’ car fled. He reportedly stepped out of his vehicle to assess the situation but was attacked and fatally stabbed repeatedly in the throat with a knife. He died instantly.

It was gathered that the attackers fled the scene, abandoning one of their vehicles in a gutter within the campus. UNN security swiftly raised an alarm, and the Chief Security Officer, Chris Alumona, ordered all campus exits be sealed.

WITHIN NIGERIA findings showed that as the suspects were attempting to escape through the Odenigwe Gate axis, four of them were apprehended. They are currently in custody at the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where investigations are ongoing.

UNN confirms the incident, gives new directives

On Monday, the Acting Public Relations Officer, UNN, Inya Agha Egwu, issued a statement,  condemning the killing.

Mr. Egwu assured that the University management remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of its community.

He however stated the management will continue to take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such ugly incidents on the campus.

The varsity image maker further explained that in view of the recent incident, the management has directed  that all social events of any kind will not be permitted on any of the campuses beyond 6:00 p.m.

According to him, such activities must be strictly under the supervision of the University Security Unit.

The statement further reads thus; “the Management of the University of Nigeria wishes to inform the public of an unfortunate incident that occurred on Friday, 12th September 2025, during a bonfire night organised by students’ association of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.

“The event was infiltrated by miscreants from a neighboring community, who instigated violence. In the course of the disturbance, a guest at the event, Mr. Chiebonam Nweze, was stabbed. Sadly, despite prompt efforts to save his life, he passed away before receiving medical attention at the University’s Medical Center.

“Investigations have confirmed that neither the deceased nor the assailants were students of the University of Nigeria.

“We wish to assure the public that the University Security Unit, working in close collaboration with the Anti-Cult Unit of the Nigeria Police, has successfully apprehended all those responsible for the tragic incident.

“The Management of the University of Nigeria expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Mr. Chiebonam Nweze and prays for comfort during this time of grief.

“In light of the unfortunate development, the University has reviewed its guidelines for student social activities.

“Henceforth, all such activities must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit. Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m.”

“The University of Nigeria remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of its community and will continue to take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.”

However, all efforts to get the confirmation of the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu state police command, Mr. Daniel Ndukwe proved abortive as he was not picking his calls.
