Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, is a Nigerian street-hop singer who rose to fame in late 2021 after the success of “Zazoo Zeh.” Beyond music, Portable became widely known for his outspoken personality, frequent online rants, and a controversial personal life that often plays out publicly on social media.
Ashabi Simple is an actress and content creator who later became romantically linked to the singer. Their relationship became public after Ashabi was confirmed as one of Portable’s partners and the mother of his child. Over time, she appeared frequently in conversations around Portable’s family structure, which includes his wife Bewaji and other women he openly refers to as baby mamas.
Between 2024 and mid-2025, Portable and Ashabi Simple shared moments online that suggested closeness and mutual affection. Ashabi posted videos and photos of them together dancing, travelling, and celebrating personal moments, often accompanied by emotional captions about love, support, and loyalty. Portable also responded positively to some of these posts, reinforcing the image of a relationship that, at least publicly, appeared warm and stable.
However, this public affection existed alongside ongoing tension. Portable consistently maintained that Bewaji was his only wife, while acknowledging that he had children with other women. This distinction, which he often spoke about openly online, quietly set the stage for conflict.
While Portable and Ashabi’s relationship had always been complicated and marked by moments of affection and frequent disagreements, it never appeared, to be close to a breaking point.
The Breaking Point: January 1, 2026

The tension became public on January 1, 2026, when Ashabi Simple visited Portable’s bar in Ogun State. Reports indicate that a disagreement over relationship status and recognition escalated quickly. Portable in a viral video reminded Ashabi that Bewaji is his only wife, and dismissed all other partners, including Ashabi, as baby mamas. This comment angered Ashabi, who insisted she should be recognized as a wife.
The disagreement reportedly became physical. In the clip, Ashabi, could be seen holding tightly on to Portable, while urging him to kill her. She repeatedly said “pami baby” (I.e: baby, kill me).
After the video went viral, Ashabi claimed Portable pushed her brother, assaulted her sister, and even threatened her with an axe while performing strange chants. He also allegedly poured water on her in a tense moment that shocked onlookers.
This confrontation marked the turning point, moving the conflict from social media to the attention of law enforcement.
The Arrest: Chaos Captured on Camera

After the incident, Ashabi Simple reportedly reported Portable to the police, citing the alleged assault. Once authorities arrived, the situation escalated further. A video that quickly went viral showed Portable resisting arrest, struggling with officers, and shouting while bystanders tried to intervene.
Another clip from the police station showed him shirtless, handcuffed, kneeling, and tearfully begging the officers. This moment shocked fans and drew a flood of reactions on social media.
Following the mixed reactions, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed Portable was in custody following the complaint but condemned the public filming of the arrest, stating it undermined police procedure. An internal investigation into both the alleged assault and the handling of Portable in custody was announced.
From “Pami Baby” to Headlines

The phrase “Pami baby,” which later became a viral headline, emerged during one of the most explosive moments of the fallout, as mentioned earlier. Following the January 1 incident, a heated outburst circulated widely online with Portable publicly declaring that he was completely done with Ashabi Simple. He stated that he no longer loved her and had no intention of reconciling, stressing that they were never legally married and questioning why she involved the police after their disagreement.
In the same rant, Portable insisted that his only remaining responsibility to Ashabi was financial support for their children. He accused her of trying to damage his marriage by going public with their issues and claimed she deliberately involved gossip platforms to stir trouble. Portable who later made a diss track titled “Pami Baby”, ended his rant with the now-viral line where he referred to Ashabi sarcastically as “Pami baby”.
Ashabi Simple later responded to critics of her “pami baby” moment. She gave her own explanation, offering a different version of events. She claimed that if marriage had truly been her goal, she would have accepted it earlier, particularly during the naming ceremony of their second child. According to her, Portable arrived at the event with a ring and marriage documents, asking for her details to be filled in.
However, Ashabi said the proposal came with conditions she and her family were uncomfortable with. She alleged that Portable told her he could not complete traditional marriage requirements such as bringing customary items, insisting that this was how he operated. Ashabi said her family declined the arrangement, a decision she believes later became a tool for Portable to publicly undermine and insult her by repeatedly stressing that she was “not his wife.”
Conclusion

Following the New Year’s Day incident and his subsequent arrest, Portable was arraigned before the Ogun State High Court sitting in Onipanu, Ota, on multiple charges including assault, felony occasioning harm, and resisting arrest. He was accused of attacking Ashabi Simple, assaulting other individuals at his Odogwu bar, and obstructing a female police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
Although Ashabi Simple was not present in court, her two siblings appeared as witnesses, reinforcing the seriousness of the case. During the proceedings, Portable reportedly became emotional and broke down in tears. His legal team applied for bail, but the judge declined to grant it immediately, explaining that the court needed to hear directly from the assaulted police officer before making a decision.
As a result, Portable was remanded in custody, with his bail application adjourned until January 19.
The situation marks a sobering turn in a story that once revolved around affectionate videos, public admiration, and playful nicknames.
