She attended Maryland Primary School and Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School before proceeding to Kwara State Polytechnic for a diploma. She later studied film making at Olabisi Onabanjo University, further strengthening her technical foundation in cinema.

Faithia’s entry into acting happened unexpectedly when she was asked to stand in for a missing actress during a film production linked to her uncle. That moment led to her first screen role in Ta Lo Pa Chief, launching what would become a decades long Nollywood career.

Over the years, she has starred in, produced and directed numerous films and earned major industry recognition, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Most Outstanding Actress in an Indigenous Film and multiple Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards honours.

Saidi Balogun: Nollywood Filmmaker Who Rose From Television to Cinema Powerhouse

Saidi Balogun

Saidi Kolawole Alabi Balogun, born February 5, 1967, is a Nigerian actor, producer and director whose career spans more than four decades in film and television. Though born in Nigeria’s South East region, he is widely associated with Kwara and Oyo states, where he grew up and received his education.

Balogun studied at Kwara State Polytechnic and began his entertainment career at a young age, presenting the television programme Youth Today on NTA in the late 1970s. He later transitioned into film production, releasing his first movie City Girl in 1989.

He was previously married to actress Faithia Williams, and the union produced two children before the couple separated in 2014. Despite the separation, both actors remain prominent figures within the same film industry space.

Saidi Balogun’s Losses: Sister and Daughter

June 2023 — Loss of Younger Sister

Saidi Balogun publicly announced the death of his younger sister, Idiat Balogun Aminu, in June 2023. Taking to his Instagram page, the actor mourned his sibling and paid tribute to her life, sharing how much she meant to him and how deeply her passing affected him.

October 2024 — Death of His Daughter Zinat (Zeenat) Balogun

On October 5, 2024, Saidi Balogun lost his first daughter, Zinat Balogun, a moment that brought immense sorrow to his family. He announced her passing on Instagram with a solemn tribute, and the news quickly circulated across entertainment news outlets.

The announcement prompted an outpouring of support from colleagues and fans. Actress Ronke Oshodi Oke and others shared condolences on social media. Faithia Williams, Saidi’s former wife and Zinat’s one‑time stepmother also posted a message of grief with prayers for strength.

In a subsequent family statement, shared via Saidi’s son, Jamal Balogun, the family described Zinat as “a warrior who gave life her all”.

Together, these events mark two significant personal losses for Saidi Balogun within a roughly three‑year period. The loss of his sister in 2023 and his daughter in 2024.

Faithia Balogun’s Losses: Father and Mother

April 2024 — Death of Her Father

On April 23, 2024, Faithia Balogun announced the passing of her father to her followers, expressing her sorrow in a heartfelt social media post. While she did not disclose details about when or how he died, she described him as a beloved figure in her life and acknowledged the emotional weight of his loss.

February 2026 — Death of Her Mother

Most recently, in February 2026, Faithia shared the heartbreaking news that her mother passed away on the eve of her 55th birthday celebration. The announcement revealed that the loss occurred on February 7, and that family members chose to withhold the news until after the birthday party held on February 8, so she could celebrate the milestone.

Faithia described her late mother as her “cheerleader, prayer warrior, best friend, and gist partner,” highlighting the profound bond they shared and the emotional difficulty of accepting her death. She asked fans and well‑wishers for prayers as her family mourns and prepares for burial arrangements at a later date.

The loss of her father in 2024 and her mother in early 2026, reflect deeply personal moments in Faithia’s life that unfolded publicly and touched many of her supporters.

Community Response and Shared Strength

The entertainment community in Nigeria has rallied around both Faithia and Saidi Balogun during these times of grief. Condolences and messages of support have flowed from colleagues, fans, and peers across social media and industry circles, illustrating the respect and empathy they command.

Despite their personal tragedies, both actors have continued to remain active in their careers, drawing on faith and community support to navigate life beyond the spotlight. Their experiences resonate broadly, reminding the public that grief affects even the most celebrated figures and that strength often grows from shared compassion and understanding.
