Confusion and controversy have trailed the alleged sudden death of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN at his off campus residence.

Joshua Chinaza Diovu was said to have allegedly stabbed himself to death at his off campus lodge room at beach junction Nsukka.

The incident which took place on Thursday, February 12, 2026 has left many residents of the town confused over what could have led to the ugly incident.

Though the victim, a 300-level student Biochemistry student of the University did not leave any suicide note, residents have suggested that the incident was not unconnected with the financial difficulties he was said to have passing through for some time now.

Joshua Chinaza Diovu: Stabbed himself to death

According to our source who spoke under anonymity, “he locked himself in his lodge at Beach Junction, Nsukka and ended it all by stabbing himself to death.

“Those around him said he had been saying he was tired of being financially stranded. He couldn’t handle the constant pressure of not having money. The struggle felt too heavy.

“Some of his friends who saw his Whatsapp status early in the day said that the deceased posted some scary text which read this, “What a life? Life is so deep, but I don’t know. Forgive me.

“So, we are all brothers. So, this is life. I wish I knew. It’s too late. What a life. I was fooled. No one advised me. I will just kill myself. I know I will not survive it. Bye to the world. It’s a pity. I wish I know. I was fooled”.

However, his lifeless body was discovered at about 7:30pm with a knife dangling on his neck two days later when the neighbours started perceiving some foul odour from his room.

Findings by WITHIN NIGERIA showed that late Diovu who hailed from Amegu-Uwani Ohemuje Aku, Igbo Etiti LGA, Enugu state was one of the intelligent students of the department.

In the meantime, controversy and confusion have continued to trail the death of Mr. Diovu.

Reacting to the incident, one of the students of the institution opined that the incident might not be suicide, but rather murder.

“For me this might be a murder case because from what I heard it wasn’t just one stab, it’s a multiple stab.Come to think of it did he slit his own throat before the multiple stabs or he stabbed himself multiple times before slitting his throat?

Rose Onuoha , another student also said that “the story is funny and suspicious. How can he have heart to bear the pains of stabning and silencing himself? Infact there’s a foul play here and as a Nigerian student who has endured hardship and financial difficulties that are common to every student in our country except politician’s children.

“He should not have done this harm to himself. The school authority should investigate the real cause of the several  mutilations on his body.”

Another student also reacted that it could not have been as a result of lack of money.

The student said that hardship, suffering and pains have already become part and parcel of Nigerian students and so, none of them should kill themselves for such difficulties.

“Broke as how? Having endured to 300L, he would have endured to the fullest of his study, unless he did not start his school year in Nigeria where life is not a bed of roses.

“For the students, in our time there’s this method of eating just to save cost. You either ate 001, 100, 010 or 011.

“The people who graduated from ABSU will understand and interpret this formula for feeding in the school better. So being broken by student that led him to commit suicide is questionable.

“Those that claimed they saw him through the window should be questioned. His phone if found should also be checked for his last communication.

“As a Nigeria student at 300L he should be used to being broken down financially. So, that can not be a cause for alarm.”

At the time of filing this report, both the University authorities and Enugu state police command are yet to either confirm the incident or make any public statement on the matter.

However, our reporter gathered that the body of Mr. Diovu has been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary in Nsukka.
