Adamawa: 4 NYSC members, soldier, 1 other die in road accident

Four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have lost their lives in fatal road accident in Adamawa State.

A soldier and one other civilian were also among the victims of the accident which happened on Wednesday at about 1:50 pm.

The accident, which involved a military vehicle and a commercial Toyota bus, occurred on the Girei–Song Highway in the Girei–Song local government area.

The military gun truck was travelling from Gombi to Yola and a Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.

Eyewitness disclosed that the collision of the two vehicles caused the commercial bus to burst into flames and killed all the passengers on board.

The spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Ngurore, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

He said, “Tragically, all five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision.

“Preliminary identification shows that four of the deceased were members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Adamawa State.”

Two of the victims as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts were ongoing to identify the remaining victims.

Ngurore added that a soldier attached to the military vehicle also lost his life in the crash.

He said police operatives, in collaboration with emergency responders, swiftly moved to the scene, while the bodies were deposited at the Specialist Hospital, Yola.

He said efforts are ongoing to identify all victims and contact their families, adding that further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
