Police arrrest 7 kidnappers, recover N3.2m cash in Niger state

Seven suspected bandits who were involved in the kidnapping of residents in Niger state have been arrested by the police and the sum of N3.2 million cash has been recovered.

This was disclosed by the spokesman of the state command, ASP Wasiu Abiodun in a statement released on Monday, January 18.

The PPRO said police operatives attached to the Anti-kidnapping unit of the command, arrested four suspected bandits during a patrol along Gwada/Shiroro road on December 24.

The suspects are Abdulkareem Moh’d 25, of Kauru, Kaduna State, Nura Ibrahim, 30, of Shengu fulani, Munya LGA, Jamilu Moh’d, 30, of Gwada and and their female accomplice, Hauwa Mohammed, 30, of Shengu fulani camp, Munya LGA.

“The said Abdulkareem and Nura were arrested with a sum of one million, five hundred thousand naira in their possession. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to be members of armed bandits terrorizing Kussasu/Galadima kogo area of Shiroro LGA and that the money is a proceeds from kidnapping ransom and sale of rustled cattle which they were sent to transfer the money to one Ishaku and Adamu both ‘m’ of Kagarko, Kaduna,” the statement reads.

The PPRO said Nura Ibrahim and Jamilu Mohammed are motorcyclists, who specialises in transporting the hoodlums from one point to another, while Hauwa Mohammed linked the motorcyclists with the hoodlums for transportation purpose.

In a similar development, three suspected bandits and kidnappers were arrested by police operatives attached to Ibbi Division while on patrol along Ibbi/New-Bussa road on December 31, 2020.

The suspects are Usman Shehu of Rafin-Kwakwa Kebbi State, Bello Mahammed ’m’ of Kanya Riba village Kebbi State and Ibrahim Shuaibu of Danko Wasagu, Kebbi State.

“The suspects were searched and about one million, seven hundred thousand naira were found in their possession. During interrogation, the suspects confessed that the money is the proceeds shared from kidnapping ransom of about three victims kidnapped from Nasko and Mashegu. Case under investigation.” Abiodun added.
