As Nigeria is preparing for the 2023 general elections, Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, challenges the country’s musicians to influence the political sphere like they are doing to Afrobeat music genre.
Afrobeat is currently one of the world’s most sophisticated genres of music, thanks to Nigerian musicians who have contributed immensely to its growth and international acceptance.
Through their fighting spirit and quest for success, Nigerian musicians have broken different records and strategically positioned themselves to compete with world-class musicians.
Despite all the accolades, which include international music collaborations with first-rated musicians across the globe, winning of the most reputable music award, Grammys, and other notable recognitions received by Nigerian musicians, their home country is faced with extreme poverty, poor electricity, hike in fuel price, economic hardship and poor leadership.
Tacha has now taken to her Twitter page to call the musicians in Nigeria to action as the 2023 elections are fast approaching. She questioned their sense of reasoning when asking them what they would tell their kids about the poverty-stricken Nigeria after all their international victories in music.
“Are we going to tell our kids how we sold out the O2 Arena?? Shut down Madison Square Garden and took AFROBEAT WORLDWIDE But couldn’t EFFECT CHANGE IN THE COUNTRY we claim to love!! I’m really confuse! Help me out here.”
Tacha further advised Nigerians to stop complaining about the sorry state of the country, but to get involved in politics to effect the change they actually want.
“Truth be told! 99% of POLITICAL POSITIONs will be held by APC and PDP COME 2023.”
“What excuses will you give your kids as to why your country is the way it is?? We have to move pass criticizing and having conversations about “the problem” To actually GETTING INVOLVED!,” Tacha wrote on Twitter.
