Singer CKay Makes Time’s Next Generation Leaders List For 2022

CKay

Singer and music producer Chukwuka Ekweani, popularly referred to as CKay, makes the 2022 list of Time’s Next Generation Leaders.

CKay, who is the only Nigerian on the list, secured his global recognition through his 2019 song, ‘Love Nwantiti,’ which broke out during the pandemic as a viral track with different remixes on social media.

The song, ‘Love Nwantiti,’ has garnered almost 2 billion views on TikTok and 500 million more on YouTube, and has charted in six continents, hitting No. 1 in India, Norway, and Switzerland.

Time described Ckay as one of the most successful African recording artists who, in his way, is turning Afrobeats into a global phenomenon.

Speaking about one of his most successful songs, ‘Love Nwatiti,’ in an interview with the magazine, Ckay said, “If an artist makes something from his soul, people can tell, regardless of how fast or slow it is, or whether or not it fits trends.”
