Gov Obaseki mourns music maestro, Osayomore Joseph

Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, has expressed sorrow over the death of Ambassador Osayomore Joseph, a popular highlife musician who died on Saturday.

In a statement signed by him, the governor described the music maestro as an enigmatic and versatile musician who, he claimed, had spread didactic messages through his “soulful and sonorous voice.”

Obaseki recalled how the music legend used his songs to spread Edo culture around the world.

He described the musician’s contribution to the state’s creative industry as “remarkable” as well as “transformational,” emphasizing that Osayomore was an important voice in the quest to improve society.

“His long music career, which started in the 1970s, was very productive and enriched the lives of many. The boldness and candour enmeshed in his rhythmic melodies earned him local and international acclaim.

“I commiserate with the Osayomore family, fans and friends of the illustrious musician and pray that God will grant all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss”, the statement added.
