Mercy Eke, the first female winner of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show, believes that romantic relationships on the show are a scam and a strategy.
Mercy revealed this during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, explaining why she was stuck in her relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Ike Onyema.
Remember that Ike and Mercy were a couple on the reality show, but their relationship didn’t last beyond the show, which disappointed many fans.
In regards to the relationship, Mercy stated that if she had known her fanbase was so large, she would not have pursued a relationship with Ike.
Even when their relationship wasn’t working, the reality TV star said she couldn’t leave Ike because of the money.
Mercy, who grew up in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, said those expecting her to speak with an American accent were insane.
In her words:
BBNaija relationships are the biggest scam, it was even original for me initially, as a matter of fact, if I had known that I was a strong housemate and that people loved me for me, I wouldn’t have bothered getting involved with him.
I wouldn’t say it was a strategy, for me, we flowed with it but we had to put up a show even when not happy for people who aren’t even in relationships. If it is not working out, you move but in my case I couldn’t, I had to be there cos of money, otherwise, I won’t have my complete money.
I schooled in Owerri, primary and secondary. It was only the National Youth Service that made me leave Owerri. How do they expect me to speak in the US or American accent? you must be really mad.
