Prominent Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo demonstrated his commitment to a bet he had made by fulfilling a rather unconventional promise.
He had openly declared that if Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (Presec) were to defeat his former school, Achimota School, in the final round of the 2023 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), he would undertake the unique task of walking backwards, barefooted, from Ayawaso West to the Presec campus.
Dumelo’s initial confidence in his alma mater, Achimota School, led him to make this daring wager when Presec qualified for the NSMQ 2023 grand finals against Achimota School and Opoku Ware School.
However, in a dramatic turn of events during the math competition on Monday, October 30, 2023, Achimota School and Opoku Ware School were bested by Presec in the NSMQ final.
True to his word, John Dumelo embarked on his unusual barefoot journey from the Ayawaso West to the Presec gate on Tuesday, October 31, after losing the bet. He conveyed his message via social media, affirming his commitment to upholding the bet’s conditions.
His post read:
“Yesterday I walked the talk. I walked backwards from Ayawaso West to Presec. I also presented 8 crates of fresh eggs from my farm to the Headmaster and the NSMQ winners. Want to thank everyone who made this possible. God bless us all. #walkthetalk #manofhiswords #johndumelo.”
