Simi Gold debunks imprisonment rumours following alleged Naira tampering incident

Nigerian actress, Simi Gold, has taken to social media to deny rumours surrounding her alleged six-month imprisonment for tampering with new Naira notes during a social event.

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, reportedly convicted and sentenced Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin to six months in prison for the said offense.

The controversy stems from an incident that occurred on January 28, 2023, at Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos.

Simi Gold was charged with two counts by the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to which she pleaded “not guilty” on February 13, 2023.

She was subsequently granted bail on February 15, 2023.

The charges against the actress specifically accused her of tampering with the sum of N100,000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) during a social occasion, an act deemed to be in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

However, in a recent update on her Snapchat story, Simi Gold directly addressed the rumours.

She wrote;

Ignore whatever you see online. I am home and safe.”

In related news, Nigerian actressOluwadarasimi Omoseyin, popularly known as Simi Gold, has been convicted and sentenced to six months in prison for her actions during a social event in Lagos.

On February 1, 2024, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, delivered the verdict, finding the actress guilty of violating the Central Bank Act.

The charges against Simi Gold were first brought by the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 13, 2023.
