Grammy-nominated Nigerian singers, Davido and Ayra Starr, congratulates their South African counterpart, Tyla for winning the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys.

  • Davido and Ayra Starr lost to Tyla on the 66th Grammys 
  • The two took to their respective social media handles to congratulates Tyla as she claimed the historic gramophone on Sunday night.

Nigerian superstar Davido and rising sensation Ayra Starr took a moment to extend their heartfelt congratulations to Tyla even after losing out in the maiden African category.

Despite the disappointment, their gracious and sportsmanlike gestures exemplify the supportive nature and camaraderie that exists within the African music community.

Recall that Tyla won the historic gramophone on Sunday night, beating out Ayra Starr, Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, and Olamide.

However, using their separate social media accounts, Davido and Ayra Starr congratulated Tyla on her win.

“Congratulations on your win @Tyllaaaaaaa ! Big One for Africa! Keep soaring!,” Davido wrote on his X page.

On Monday morning, Ayra Starr wrote on her X handle:

“Congratulations to my babessssss @Tyllaaaaaaa.”

Tyla and Ayra Starr previously worked on her popular song, ‘Girl Next Door.’

Ayra Starr in an interview days before the ceremony stated that she had already planned her Grammy acceptance speech.

Few hours ago, Davido had revealed how he would celebrate if he win Grammy.

Nigerian afrobeats singer, Davido expresses his overwhelming emotions towards the possibility of winning a Grammy Award.

Recall that Davido’s ‘Unavailable‘ featuring Musa Keys is one of five songs nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammys.

In an interview with Billboard during the Pre-Grammy show, Davido stated that if he wins the Best African Music Performance award, he will celebrate wildly.

Davido admitted that the prestigious global recognition would undoubtedly push him over the edge, igniting a wildfire of excitement within him.

However, he declared that no matter who wins, he will be glad for Africa.

“I am just happy that we all get to shine. What if there was no [African] category? So, at the end of the day we should all be happy that we have this category, something to call our own. Whoever wins, it’s okay. If I win, we are celebrating. We go crazy,” he said
