Davido acknowledges African triumph despite Grammy losses
  • Afrobeat star Davido loses all three Grammy nominations at the 66th annual Grammy Awards.
  • Categories included Best Global Music Album, Best Global Music Performance, and Best African Music Performance.
  • Winners: Tyla (South Africa), Shakti (India), and Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain featuring Rakesh Chaurasia (USA).
  • Davido graciously acknowledges Tyla’s win on the X platform, describing it as a collective victory for Africa.

Afrobeat star Davido, who was nominated in three categories at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, has responded to his loss in all three at the prestigious event.

Davido’s nominations included ‘Timeless’ for Best Global Music Album, ‘Feel’ for Best Global Music Performance, and ‘Unavailable’ for Best African Music Performance.

Despite being considered his best chance at winning a Grammy, the awards in these categories were ultimately secured by other artists.

Davido acknowledges African triumph despite Grammy losses

Tyla from South Africa claimed victory in the Best African Music Performance category, while Shakti from India triumphed in the Best Global Music Album category.

The Best Global Music Performance award went to the American trio of Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer & Zakir Hussain featuring Rakesh Chaurasia.

 

In response to his loss, Davido took to his Twitter page (now X) to express his congratulations to Tyla.

 “Congratulations on your win @Tyllaaaaaaa! Big One for Africa! Keep soaring! 🔥⭐️.” Davido wrote.

He also shared the post on his Instagram story, reaching out to his vast fan base, which exceeds 20 million followers.

Despite the setback at the Grammy Awards, fans and well-wishers have flooded Davido’s social media pages with messages of comfort and support.

Recall that Davido’s ‘Unavailable‘ featuring Musa Keys is one of five songs nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 66th Grammys.

In an interview with Billboard during the Pre-Grammy show, Davido stated that if he wins the Best African Music Performance award, he will celebrate wildly.
