I want to act Nollywood movie – American Psychologist, Umar Johnson

• Umar Johnson called on Nollywood filmmakers to reach out to him to feature in their movies.
• He highlighted that it has to be a conscious film, one that wouldn’t involve him being a criminal or anything crime related

American psychologist Umar Johnson has expressed his desire to step into the world of Nollywood and try his hand at acting.

He urged Nollywood producers to get in touch with him about appearing in their productions.

Umar Johnson believes that he can bring a fresh perspective to the screen and showcase the diverse talents of both the African and African-American.

He however pointed out that the movie has to be conscious one ,no portraying him as a crimin@l or pimp on screen.

In a now-viral video, Dr. Johnson stated:

“Nigeria, I’m waiting for an invitation. I’m trying to get into Nollywood. I want to star in some of the Nigerian movies. Somebody put me in touch with Black Nollywood in Nigeria.

“I want to be in a Nollywood movie. Anybody making a movie out there has got to be conscious though. I’m not doing any blaxploitation. My role has to be egocentric. My role has to be who I am. I can have a different name and personality but it must be progressive and pan-Africanist.

“I will not play a con on television. I’m not playing no pimp, no drug dealer, no criminal. It must be consistent. egocentricity is a necessity.”

In another story, Nigerian actors Ramsey Nouah, Mo Abudu Join Academy Awards Members.

They listed Nouah in the actors’ category for his roles in the 2016 movie, ‘76’, and ‘The Figurine’, released in 2009. While Abudu was named in the producers’ category for her 2020 and 2017 films, ‘Oloture’ and ‘The Royal Hibiscus Hotel’.

In a statement, the Academy disclosed that the membership selection decisions were based on professional qualifications, “with representation, inclusion and equity remaining a priority of Academy Aperture 2025.”
