Davido to pay Pinnick N30m over breach of contract after settling out of court

• Davido and Pinnick have agreed to settle their differences out of court.
• This comes after Pinnick filed a breach of contract suit against Davido.
• The singer also agreed to pay N30 million to the former president of NFF. He would also be performing at Warri Again concert.

Singer Davido has agreed to settle the breach of contract suit filed against him by former president of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Amaju Pinnick-led Brownhill Investment Company Limited at the Delta State High Court in Effurun.

As part of the consent judgment entered in a N2 billion suit filed against him, Davido also agreed to pay N30 million to the claimant, being a part contribution to the claimant’s outstanding legal fees in the suit within seven days of execution of the terms of settlement.

Justice Michael Obi of High Court Three, Effurun, on Thursday, commended both parties for the amicable resolution to settle out of court. Obi said:

“I commend both parties for exploring an amicable resolution to settle out of court.”

Responding to the court verdict, counsel to the defendants, Mr Oladayo Ogungbe, said after the court’s proceedings that both parties had been able to explore the out-of-court settlement. Ogungbe said:

“Davido is coming again to Warri on October 4 to perform – that forms part of the settlement.

“It’s fine. It is better than going through the rigours of litigations.

“Both parties consider the option of having the matter settled out of court, which in my opinion as a lawyer, is the best approach to any litigation.

“It is a win-win situation to both parties,”

In October 2023, Pinnick called out Davido for not fulfilling his performance obligations at an event despite receiving $94,600.

Brownhill Investments Company Limited filed a suit marked EHC/183/2023 before the court. The firm initiated legal action against Davido, seeking N2.3bn.

Davido faced allegations of breaching a contract when he did not fulfil his performance obligations at the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again’ concert, even though he had been paid the requested fees.
