“90 percent of them were once struggling to be Afrobeats Prince” – Cynthia Morgan shades Burna Boy, Wizkid,
  • Cynthia Morgan noted how 90 percent of artists underrating Afrobeats were seeking validation from it.
  • Cynthia stated that unknowingly to such artists, Afrobeats is their heartbeat.

Nigerian former dancehall singer, Cynthia Morgan, throws shades at her colleagues Burna Boy and Wizkid, for their remarks about Afrobeats.

In a recent Instagram post, she highlighted how 90 percent of artists who once struggled to be recognized as Afrobeats royalty are now talking down on the music genre.

Cynthia Morgan pointed out that many artists who now dismiss Afrobeats were once seeking validation from it.

According to her, they once struggled to establish themselves as either the “Prince” or “King” of the genre. However, now that they’ve achieved success, they want to talk down on the very music that helped shape their careers.

She wrote:

“90 percent of the artists claiming Afrobeats ain’t shit now was once struggling to be its Prince or King. Now that they think they’ve used her they now think they can dump her by talking down on her. Unknowing to them even their heartbeat is Afrobeats”.

“Don’t be scared. Genres go and come and switching wouldn’t be a problem when you honor every genre that once fed you”.

Cynthia Morgan isn’t the first to react to Wizkid and Burna Boy’s remarks about afrobeats,  Bella Shmurda had given his thoughts too.

Bella believes that it is crucial for artists to respect and honor Afrobeats, as it is a gift from God that should not be downgraded.

In a recent episode of the London 90 podcast, Bella Shmurda acknowledged feeling disheartened after hearing comments from Wizkid and Burna Boy, he highlighted the importance of respecting Afrobeats as a genre, emphasizing that Afrobeats holds immense value and should not be undermined, regardless of an artist’s stature or musical preference.
