  • Rema was performing his hit song ‘Calm Down’ on Day 2 of the festival at Dix Park in Raleigh, but stopped midway to complain about the poor sound before walking off the stage.
  • He advocated for the same sound quality for African artistes as their Western counterparts on international stages

Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Rema made headlines during the 2024 Dreamville Festival in North Carolina. The artist, midway into his performance on Sunday, abruptly walked off the stage, leaving fans and organizers stunned.

Rema was performing his hit song “Calm Down” on day 2 of the festival at Dix Park in Raleigh, However, his performance was marred by persistent sound issues. The poor audio quality disrupted the flow of his set, leading to his decision to halt the show.

Rema took the microphone and addressed the audience. He advocated for equal treatment of African artists on international stages. His frustration was evident as he exclaimed:

“Hold on, there are too many sound issues. It’s messing up my whole performance. I’m seriously not feeling this sh*t. I’m representing Africa, and this is too messed up. If the sound cannot be perfect for every artist that gets on this stage… Africa is in the house, and you are messing sh*t up”

The Dreamville Festival was created by American hip-hop superstar, J. Cole, The annual event celebrates music, culture, and creativity, drawing artists and fans from around the world.

In another story, Rema visits alma mater, meets college teacher who once helped him skip class to go to music studio .

The chart-topping artist stirred up excitement by dropping in at his secondary school, Ighile Group of Schools in Edo State, catch up with some of his former teachers.

In a trending online video, Rema was seen engaging with his assembled teachers, recounting his journey from a student to a globally acclaimed singer.

Rema revealed a striking detail about his former teacher, Uncle Esosa, who clandestinely facilitated his escape from school to pursue his passion for music in the studio.

While acknowledging the teacher’s unconventional support, Rema admitted the actions were against the rules, but credited him for playing a pivotal role in his journey to becoming who he is today.
