Singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has stirred some controversy with his recent statement, asserting that Nigeria presently has less than five talented artists.
During a recent interview with Cool FM in Lagos, Ruger expressed his belief that a significant number of Nigerian artists are merely singing for the sake of “cruise”.
According to him, those of them who possess true talent and are creating quality music do not surpass five in number.
Ruger however refrained from disclosing who the artists with genuine talent are on his list, including himself.
He said:
“I’m not the biggest artiste in Nigeria but talentwise, I’m standing somewhere there. We are not up to 5,” he said.
“I won’t say where I am on the list but I’m there. It’s not up to five. Most people are just singing for cruise but we [the talented artists], we make music.”
