“Social media ended oppression in Nigerian music industry” – Danny Young

Nigerian musician Ajibola Danladi, popularly known as Danny Young, has shared his thoughts on the transformative power of social media in the music industry.

In a recent podcast, he discussed how social media has democratized the industry, reducing the control once wielded by powerful gatekeepers.

Danny Young highlighted the limitations of the pre-social media era,
recalls his personal experience of being removed from an award nomination.

He credits social media with empowering artists to express themselves freely.

According to Young, social media has fostered an environment of freedom of speech, freedom of rights, and freedom of expression.

This shift he stated, has significantly altered the dynamics of the Nigerian music industry, providing new opportunities for artists to thrive.

In his words:

“The good thing is that social media came to expose many of them because it gave people the opportunity to express themselves. That is what led to the emergence of what we call Gen Z.

“My definition of Gen Z is freedom of speech, freedom of rights, and freedom of expression.”

‘Speedometer,’ produced by Shockerbeats, is a certified party jam, and it follows Danny Young’s famous energetic music style with the infusion of Portable’s street vibes.

The expert musician made his first notable hit song in 2006 when he released ‘Welcome’ featuring Lord of Ajasa. The singer, music producer, and record label owner went ahead to ink his name on the continent of Africa in 2008 with ‘Koni Koni Love,’ a mega-hit song that stunned the music industry.
