Singer and rapper Jesse Jagz has sparked a conversation about the role of religion in Nigerian society.
During his recent appearance on the ‘Big Talk’ podcast, he shared his thoughts on the African traditional religious beliefs and the impact of foreign religions on the community.
Jesse Jagz highlighted the difference between the two belief systems, pointing out that African traditional religious gods are often associated with excessive alcohol consumption and meat offerings.
According to him, this is why they are obese, diabetic and helpless to their worshipers
He also emphasized the importance of action alongside prayer, stressing that solely relying on miracles without effort is not enough, as prayers alone do not provide essential services like building roads or providing education.
He said:
“When you go to a shrine and you see the priest pouring gin on the gods, Google how much a bottle of gin was in slavery. 40 slaves.
“Our gods are drunk on alcohol and meat. They are obese and diabetic.
“They can’t help us do anything. Prayers do not build roads or buy books for children. We have forgotten humanity“.

He added that out of the former Chocolate City rappers, M.I Abaga, Ice Prince, and himself, Ice Prince is faster than them in freestyling.
According to Jesse Jagz, “Out of the Choc boys, I don’t think you have done something with Ice Prince. Probably, he is the better freestyler out of the three of us [M.I and Jesse Jagz].”
