- Controversial singer Portable has surrendered himself to Lagos police on Wednesday, February 19.
- This comes after the Zeh Nation record label boss was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command.
- Portable had earlier hinted on social media that he plans on surrendering and begged for leniency, while revealing why he absconded from law enforcement officials.
Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has surrendered himself to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba.
According to Punch, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin in a text confirmed this development on Wednesday, February 19.
Portable will be handed over to the Ogun state police command, for further investigation. Hundeyin wrote:
“Portable just turned himself in at the SCID Yaba. We have contacted Ogun State Police Command to come pick him up.”
The singer has been in the news recently for various controversies, including his claim of undergoing psychiatric treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola dismissed the report and maintained that Portable must surrender himself for investigation.
Odutola also claimed that the singer being in a mental facility is false because it is protocol for such facility to declare a wanted person, if indeed he is in their custody.
Hours after, Portable took to his Instagram story to hint at voluntarily surrendering to the Police and again tendered an apology to the Ogun state government, stating that fear made him abscond.
His claim of undergoing psychiatric treatment came after the Ogun State police command declared him wanted, following an attack on officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
The officials of the Ogun State government were reportedly attacked at Odogwu Bar while conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
