“Not a rap beef”: Inside the escalating feud between Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez

When Nigerian rappers go head-to-head, it’s often lyrical, clever, competitive and occasionally, commercial. But in June 2025, a feud that once appeared to be playful banter between two of the most exciting voices in Nigerian hip-hop, Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez, has spiraled into a full-blown public showdown that now has fans worried, not just entertained.

What began with subtle jabs and promotional banter has evolved into death threats, real-life confrontations, and a disturbing tone that suggests this beef is no longer just about music. Let’s take a deep dive into what happened, what’s being said, and why this feud is unlike anything the Nigerian rap scene has seen in recent years.

The Spark That Lit the Fire

Odumodu | Blaqbonez

The tension between Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez flared up after the release of “Who’s Really Rapping”. A bold, no-holds-barred track by rap veteran A-Q, featuring Blaqbonez. While A-Q delivered sharp critiques of the current rap scene, it was Blaqbonez’s guest verse that set social media ablaze.

Without naming names, Blaq’s lyrics carried the weight of direct shots, some interpreted as challenging the credibility, style, and mainstream dominance of fellow rappers. Rap fans, always eager to decode subliminals, quickly pointed fingers at Odumodublvck.

And Odumodu didn’t leave them guessing.

Odumodublvck Responds: “This Is Not a Rap Beef”

Odumodublvck

In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), Odumodublvck tore into Blaqbonez with a string of accusations that took the feud from bars to bruises, at least verbally. Odumodublvck on June 22, 2025 wrote:

“If rap hard for me your last hit no go dey with me. I’m everything you want to be, nigga. Your spirit is weak.”

He didn’t stop there. In another post, he wrote:

“This is not a rap beef. Na me and you for this world. We go meet again for street.”

This was no longer just music. The tone had shifted dramatically, with Odumodublvck suggesting the feud had crossed into personal territory, outside the booth and onto the streets.

Blaqbonez Speaks Out: “They Say They Want to Kill Me”

Blaqbonez

If Odumodublvck’s tweets raised eyebrows, Blaqbonez’s response set off alarms. On same day, he wrote on X:

“Them say them go kill me… but I don record enough for 3 more albums… no fear.”

This wasn’t bravado. It seemed like a cry for help, or at the very least, a warning to fans and followers that things were getting dangerously real. Blaqbonez, known for his quirky sense of humour, sounded unusually grave in tone.

While neither rapper has confirmed any official threats outside the digital realm, the implication of physical harm and the weight of that language has alarmed many within the hip-hop space.

Rather than excitement over diss tracks, the dominant fan mood is concern and disappointment. Many users are calling for both artists to de-escalate, return to the music, and protect their legacies.

Unlike past feuds where even the most scathing diss tracks eventually led to reconciliation or collaborative energy, this one is veering dangerously close to real-world confrontation, as Odumodublvck has refused to back down and call it a day. See screenshot of another tweet he made recently:

Conclusion:

Although some fans have hinted at the likelihood that these two artistes are not truly quarreling, they need to do better.

This isn’t just about who has the hardest bars anymore. It’s about the future of Nigerian rap, and whether the industry has matured enough to handle internal conflict without letting it spiral out of control.

Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez are two of the most powerful cultural voices of their generation. Their feud should be a moment of lyrical excellence—not a cautionary tale about unchecked ego and real-world threats.

What we’re witnessing right now is a critical turning point. One that could either lead to one of the most legendary rap duels in Afrobeats history, or become a dangerous low point in Nigerian hip-hop.

We hope it’s the former. Because at the end of the day, fans came here for the music—not a battlefield.
