Why I have two different fathers for my two kids – Kemity

‘Kemity’ Kemi Apesin

Nollywood actress Kemisola Apesin, popularly known as Kemity, has opened up about the deeply personal experiences that shaped her journey into single motherhood. She also didn’t mince words on how public judgment often ignores the painful reality behind her story.

In a recent interview on Talk To B podcast with Biola Bayo, the Yoruba movie star courageously shared how she came to have two children with different fathers, shedding light on topics many women shy away from due to societal stigma.

Kemity began by recounting how she became a mother while still in secondary school. According to her, she was in SS3 preparing for her WAEC exams when she got pregnant for her then-boyfriend—the man who deflowered her. Despite the situation, her mother, who was a strong advocate for education, insisted she stay in school and complete her education before even thinking of marriage. Kemity explained:

“The person I gave birth to my first child for was the one who deflowered me and that was how I got pregnant.

“I was about to write my WAEC at the time. My mum loved education, so she insisted that all her children must be educated.”

Kemity said her mother agreed that she could marry the man later, and she even went ahead to learn catering as a trade. However, life took a tragic turn. Though she and her baby’s father kept in touch while he was abroad, everything changed when he returned to Nigeria four years later without informing anyone. Sadly, he was killed in a robbery attack at a hotel shortly after his arrival. Kemity continued:

“It was someone who called my mum to inform her that he was back. But before we could even see him, he was killed. It was obvious he was robbed. That’s how I became a widow. Many don’t know this.”

She emphasized that many people unfairly judge her situation without understanding the pain behind it. Kemity shared:

“People online say things like ‘How can she have two children for two different fathers?’ But they don’t know my story. Nobody prays to have children with different men. That’s why I always say I’m a widow. It’s not because I was divorced.”

Kemity’s story doesn’t end there. Years later, she met another man and married him in a court ceremony. Together, they had her second child. But what started as a hopeful new chapter ended in heartbreak again, this time due to infidelity. The actress asserted:

“We were married and living together. I gave birth to our child, he was working at a fuel station and I took a teaching job. I even did extra lessons after school to support us. But then he started changing, taking midnight calls, claiming it was his boss. I knew it was another woman.”

“You know, everyone has their breaking point. When I reached mine, I walked away.”

Kemity’s story has resonated deeply with many women who have walked similar paths. Women who have loved, lost, and carried on in spite of social judgment. The 38-year-old’s vulnerability in the interview has sparked both empathy and applause, with many praising her strength and clarity in owning her truth.
