Controversial singer and self-proclaimed “energy god,” Speed Darlington, has fired back at the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), with a whopping N3 billion lawsuit!
The eccentric artist, whose real name is Darlington Achakpo Okoye, is suing the agency for what he described as a defamatory move after they publicly declared him wanted for serious allegations including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
It all started on June 27 when NAPTIP took to Instagram via their official handle, @officialnaptip, and posted a wanted notice for Speedy, urging the public to provide any credible info on his whereabouts.
According to them, he was being sought in connection with a video he posted online, where he seemingly bragged about having sexual relations with a minor in a hotel.
The video caused an uproar, prompting the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to intervene. The case was then handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation. However, Speed Darlington never showed up for questioning, prompting the agency to declare him wanted.
Now, in a twist that only Speedy could deliver, he has hit back with a lawsuit filed on July 9, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
His legal team argues that NAPTIP’s public declaration was “baseless” and has not only put his life at risk but also seriously damaged his public image.
He is demanding N3 billion in damages and asking for a court order to stop NAPTIP from acting on the contents of the publication.
While NAPTIP insists the singer must appear before them, Speed Darlington maintains that the video was simply a publicity stunt. He apologized to anyone offended and insisted that controversy is a necessary tool in showbiz.
