I became my husband’s side chick – Bose Alao opens up on marriage struggle, Iyabo Ojo’s unexpected impact

Nollywood actress Bose Alao has opened up about her deeply personal struggles, from being a teenage bride to battling domestic violence, years of separation, and eventually becoming a “side chick” to her own husband. In a sit-down interview with Biola Bayo on Talk To B, the actress held nothing back.

According to Bose, she got married way too young at 22 or 23 and didn’t really understand what marriage meant. Then came the domestic violence. She admitted she used to excuse it, thinking it was normal. She confessed:

“He didn’t slap me, so I thought it wasn’t that bad. But one day in 2018, during a fight, I hit my head on the wall. My head was bleeding, and he looked at me and just asked, ‘Where’s the blood?’ That was when something snapped.”

That 2018 incident was the breaking point.

They separated for about three to four years. She lived alone with their four kids, worked hard to stay afloat, and focused on healing. But while she was trying to get her life together, her husband started dating another woman who ended up moving into their street. She revealed:

“She moved into our street while I was away. I was the only one who didn’t know her. Everyone knew except me. She’d even pick his calls and insult me. One day, she called me an ‘old taker.’ That pain pushed me to double my hustle.”

Despite everything, he kept coming around to see the kids… and eventually started sleeping over again, which turned into chaos with the other woman screaming and calling family meetings. She recalled:

“She insulted me, even used my late mother’s name to mock me. When he started sleeping at our place again, she would call the whole family. I literally became a side chick to my own husband.”

Fast forward to around 2022 or 2023, they got back together. Bose says they still argue, but the physical abuse has stopped. That alone, she says, is progress.

Amid the chaos, Iyabo Ojo unknowingly gave Bose’s life a new direction. Bose said Iyabo saw her at a wedding and, impressed by her anchoring, promised to book her for Priscilla’s future wedding. That gig, according to Bose, changed so much in her life. Concluding, the actress said:

“Life has taught me not to be who I don’t want to be… not for love, not for survival.”
