Nkechi Blessing, Bolaji Ogunmola and the POP ceiling scare shaking celebrity homes

It starts as décor. Smooth white ceilings, carved edges, and soft lights that make every selfie glow. POP ceilings have become the ultimate symbol of modern luxury, especially in celebrity homes where aesthetics matter almost as much as comfort. But beneath that beauty lies a quiet danger that has been exposing itself one viral video at a time.

Just hours ago, actress Nkechi Blessing shared a clip of what could have ended badly. Parts of her POP ceiling collapsed unexpectedly inside her home. She called it a “miracle” that no one was hurt. Months earlier, Bolaji Ogunmola had also shared a similar experience. Two incidents, same pattern, same fear. And there are many more celebrities and everyday people who experience this unfortunate incident. Suddenly, what used to be a mark of class is turning into a safety concern that is now sparking quiet conversations online.

The New Face of Luxury Gone Wrong

For years, Plaster of Paris also known as POP ceilings have been the pride of Nigerian homeowners. They transform a plain ceiling into something elegant. Add recessed lighting and chandeliers, and your home instantly feels like a set from a Nollywood movie. But as more homes embrace the trend, more stories of falling ceilings have started surfacing.

Interior experts say POP is not the problem. The problem is how it’s installed and the kind of materials used. A well-constructed POP ceiling should last over a decade without cracks or sagging. What many homeowners, including some celebrities, are discovering is that shortcuts during construction can turn that same ceiling into a ticking time bomb.

When Beauty Turns Hazard

Nkechi Blessing

In Nkechi’s latest video, the scene looked like something straight out of a film, only this time, it was real life. Inside what appeared to be her living room, her POP ceiling came crashing down in one heavy sheet, shattering on the floor and scattering debris across the chairs. A visibly shaken Nkechi could be heard trying to laugh off what could have been a tragedy. She thanked God her young son wasn’t in the room at the time doing his assignments, as he often does.

She captioned the post with a mix of humour and exhaustion:

“Lekki THANK YOU 🙏 another sign to pack my bags and leave 😩💔💔 Second time in the space of 2 months.. Abeg make una watch my film make I fit go buy house for VI or Ikoyi. I fit dey smile ooo but deep down I am going through a lot 💔.”

Her experience echoed what actress Bolaji Ogunmola faced earlier this year. In May, Bolaji’s own ceiling collapsed without warning. She revealed that she had just left the room moments before it happened.

Bolaji Ogunmola

According to her, she was in the middle of a film shoot when her production manager noticed a small crack on the ceiling. Moments later, the entire structure came down. She told a fan:

“Crazy story…. We were actually filming upstairs and my PM was trying to do a video for me to see a small crack on the ceiling… everything came down.”

The clip Bolaji shared showed debris scattered across her living room, the ceiling torn apart as if peeled by invisible hands. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Charles Okocha & Rico

Not everyone has been that lucky. In June 2025, content creator Rico, popularly known as Billionaire Gateman, was trapped under a fallen POP ceiling. The incident sent shockwaves through social media as fans prayed for his recovery. According to Nollywood actor Charles Okocha (Igwe 2Pac), who broke the news, Rico was rushed to the hospital immediately after the collapse. He wrote:

“Prayers up for my boy Rico #billionaire_gateman_.POP just fell on him. To God be the glory.”

Zicsaloma

In 2024, skit maker Zicsaloma also had a close call. He shared a video of the moment his living room ceiling caved in during what was supposed to be a casual recording session.

“Na God dey save person,” he said after narrowly escaping injury.

The comedian explained that he had hosted friends at home just a day earlier. Hours after they left, he heard a loud crash and walked into a scene of destruction — his POP ceiling in ruins.

Vanora

That same year, Nigerian model Vanora almost lost her life on her birthday when her ceiling collapsed just as she received her cake. She later shared her horror online, writing:

“It felt like the entire building was collapsing. I looked up and saw everything crashing down. My cake was ruined, but there was no time to save it. I ran for my life.”

Vanora said the incident destroyed several of her belongings and that it was not an isolated case. According to her, it was the eighth apartment in her compound to experience such a collapse. She added:

“Despite my survival, I’m still deeply traumatized. I’m living in a house that could collapse at any moment, and I’m terrified.”

Ruth Eze

In 2022, actress Ruth Eze also had her near-death moment when her living room ceiling gave way. She shared the footage online, showing the entire POP panel torn down from the roof.

In her words:

“My Chi will never allow them to succeed. They will only plan but will never succeed.”

The Quiet Wake-Up Call

When you line up all these stories featuring Nkechi Blessing’s shaken laughter, Bolaji Ogunmola’s narrow escape, Rico’s hospital rush, Zicsaloma’s disbelief, Vanora’s ruined birthday and Ruth Eze’s midnight shock, it starts to feel like more than coincidence. Something about it mirrors how fragile the glamour around one can be. One minute, it’s a beautiful ceiling glowing above; the next, it’s a reminder that beauty can fall apart without warning.

For the average Nigerian homeowner, the falling POP has become a strange symbol of not just bad construction, but of how quickly comfort can turn into chaos. It’s the reminder that no matter how polished a home looks, it’s still only as strong as what holds it together. For celebrities, it’s even more personal. Their homes double as their safe space and their stage. So, when something as ordinary as a ceiling caves in, it chips away at that sense of control and perfection that fame often demands.

What stands out from each of these stories is gratitude. Every single one of them ended their ordeal with some version of “thank God.” That unfiltered relief cuts through every caption and clip. Because in those few seconds between the loud crash and the realisation of survival, everything else from the followers, the décor, and the hustle, fades into the background.

The truth is, this new wave of “POP incidents” is less about interior design and more about a shift in awareness. We are finally seeing how fragile our spaces can be. Every photo-perfect living room on Instagram hides the same truth: things break, walls crack, ceilings fall. Sometimes, even the most luxurious spaces remind us how little control we actually have.

Yet, in a strange way, these incidents have done what glossy home tours never could, they’ve shown the raw side of celebrity living. There’s something grounding about seeing stars who are often larger than life share moments of fear, vulnerability, and messy reality.
